I guess it’s not surprising how many times Kevin and I are asked some version of the following: Are you going to SOCAP? What is SOCAP doing now? Or, more pointedly: How do you feel about SOCAP these days?
And I think perhaps the unasked question from the group of people who read this newsletter is: Should I go to SOCAP?
The answer to the first question, are Kevin and I going to SOCAP, is an unqualified YES. We still go to SOCAP. Even if we had to pay for our tickets – which we don’t thanks to the graciousness of the new owners – we would be there!
SOCAP is truly the global gathering of people working to change the world for better through investing. At least a couple of thousand folks will be in San Francisco gathering around the theme: Facing Urgency – Impact at the Speed of Trust. You can find out more here.
Obviously, if you have to choose one event, and you are interested in a local solution, in understanding your money as an extension of your faith, in meeting people with tools to help bridge the racial wealth gap, then Neighborhood Economics in San Antonio is the answer. But there are still many folks who will attend both.
If your work involves moving massive amounts of money or if you are looking to rapidly scale your proven solution, SOCAP is a must. The contacts made there can make a huge difference in your work. If this describes you and your work and you want to know more about how to get the most out of SOCAP, please feel free to reach out. Either Kevin or I will be happy to help you find your way there. Neighborhood Economics is a different kind of convening completely. If you are working consciously in a local ecosystem and need local partners–from non-profits working on economic justice, to health, to anchor institutions like hospitals or universities–NE San Antonio is the event for you. We are working to create new economic systems that work for all and no longer victimize minorities and those without power, systems that subvert systematic racism.
Our early-bird pricing is still in effect: using the code EARLYBIRD saves you $300.
In order for our work to grow, we will need partners working at the global level and will always be reaching out to the SOCAP community to get on board.
If you are going to SOCAP, be sure to look for us there. If we hear from enough of you, we’ll plan a gathering of like-minded folks there to share a meal or a drink! So whether it’s in San Francisco or in San Antonio, we are looking forward to seeing you soon.
